Important
To import products into Canada, you need a business number (BN) from the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and an import-export program account from Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). If you don’t already have a CRA 9-digit Business Number for your business you can obtain one through Business Registration Online (BRO).
- Licensed Customs Broker: Decide whether you’ll use a licensed customs broker to handle the import process on your behalf.
- Permitted Goods: Ensure that the goods you wish to import are allowed into Canada. Some items may have restrictions or require permits.
Imports
- The importer must have a valid importer number from Canada Revenue Agency
- Imported goods must conform to licensed activities of the importer
- Imported goods must be accompanied with an Bill of Lading / Air waybill, an Original Commercial Invoice and a Packing List
- HS Codes must be stated clearly on Commercial Invoice.
Duties and Fees
- The customs valuation is based on CIF
- Customs tariff applicable on imported goods depend on HS Codes
- Goods and Service Tax (GST) will be imposed on imported good

Exports
- Original Commercial Invoice
- Customs Declaration(B13-A )
- The Customs Declaration needs to contain the exporter’s business registration number.
- For certain goods, anexport license is required.
