Importing goods into China involves several key steps and documentation requirements.

Customs Declaration

Submission: Submit the customs declaration form and other required documents to Chinese customs authorities.

Inspection: Customs officers will inspect the goods upon arrival.

 

Duties and Taxes

Import Duties and Taxes: Pay the import duties, value-added tax (VAT), and consumption tax.

 

Release of Goods

Final Step: Once all duties and taxes are paid, and the inspection is complete, your goods will be released.

 

Additional Considerations

Prohibited Items: Such as arms, counterfeit currencies, illicit drugs, and disease-carrying animals.

Special Registrations: For specific goods like food and beverages, additional registrations with agencies like the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) and the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) may be required.

Imports

  • All importers in China are required to register with Customs Authorities for an importer Customs Registration Code (CR Code)
  • The importer must have a valid importer number from Customs Authorities
  • Imported goods must conform to licensed activities of the importer
  • Imported goods must be accompanied with an International Air Waybill / Bill of Lading, an Original Commercial Invoice, a Certificate of Origin, and a Packing List
  • HS Codes must be stated clearly on Commercial Invoice.

  • Fumigation certificate and IPPC stamp (if using wooden boxes)

 

Import Duties and Fees

  • The customs valuation is based on CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight)
  • Customs duties applicable on imported goods depend on HS Codes
  • The standard rate of VAT imposed on imported goods

  • Alcoholic beverages, tobacco, cosmetics, grain samples, seeds, foodstuffs, and plants
  • Communications equipment, computer components, and parts
  • Compact discs, tapes, and diskettes
  • Medicine: Both prescription and OTC (Over The Counter) medications

 

Exports

Required documents

  • Original Commercial Invoice.
  • Customs Declarations.
  • For certain goods, an additional export permit/license is required.
