Here’s an overview to import goods into Mauritius:
- Registration:
- Register your business with the Companies Division or online.
- Contact the Customs Department for further details.
- If your turnover exceeds Rs 6 million, register with the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA).
- Procedures and Documents:

- Import Permits:
- Certain products require import permits due to health, security, environmental, or national interest reasons.
- Examples include agricultural products, canned meat, chemicals, fish, flowers, fruits, and wood.

Remember that entry into Mauritius may require an import permit or authorization.
Imports
- The importer must have a valid importer code from Customs Authorities
- Imported goods must conform to licensed activities of the importer
- Imported goods must be accompanied with an International Waybill, an Original Commercial Invoice, and a Packing List
- HS Codes must be stated clearly on the Commercial Invoice.
Duties and Fees
- The customs valuation is based on CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight) to Mauritius
- Customs tariff applicable on imported goods depend on HS Codes
- The standard rate of VAT imposed on imported goods into Mauritius

Exports
When exporting goods from Mauritius some documents and regulations will be applied before the exit of goods to the destination:
- Original Commercial Invoice
- Customs Declaration
- For certain goods, export license is required.
Important Notes
- All exported goods might be inspected by Customs Authorities
- Gudang will not transport goods that are prohibited by the laws or regulations of Mauritius
